Why windscreen prices differ every time (and why we ask for the VIN)
Pricing
Two identical Octavias, two prices three hundred euros apart. Not a coincidence, not a markup — equipment.
When you call and say "I have an Octavia, how much is the glass", the honest answer is: I do not know. One generation of Octavia takes eight different windscreens, and the spread is over three hundred euros.
What raises the price: the camera bracket and cut-out, rain and light sensor, heating, an acoustic layer, a head-up display needing a special inner film, and the shade band.
The VIN is the only reliable way to know which combination your car has. It is in the registration document and on the plate under the windscreen.
The second factor is the origin of the glass. OE with a carmaker logo, the same glass from the same maker without the logo, and a quality alternative can differ by forty percent at identical specs.
Where we recommend OE without discussion: cars with a head-up display and heated windscreens.
