The first days after a replacement: what really matters

Leave a window slightly open. For the first twenty-four hours keep one window down by a couple of millimetres. When you slam a door on a completely sealed car, the air pressure pushes against the glass from the inside, and fresh polyurethane is at exactly the stage where it can still shift a fraction. This is not folklore, it is the one instruction that also appears in the data sheets of the adhesives.

Leave the tape where it is. The tape around the trim is not holding the glass, it is holding the trim until it settles. A day is enough, then you can peel it off. Pull it away after an hour and the trim can lift, and at a hundred and twenty it will whistle.

Stay away from the pressure washer. For the first two or three days. The problem is not an automatic car wash as such, but high-pressure jets aimed straight into the gap between the glass and the body. Ordinary rain does the seal no harm at all, we tested it with water right after fitting.

And now what you can forget about: you do not need to drive slowly, you do not need to dodge potholes and you do not need to park in a garage. Once the time we gave you at handover has passed, the bond has the strength to hold even in a crash. That is exactly what it is certified for.

If in the first few weeks you hear whistling at higher speeds, or find damp on the pillar trim after rain, come straight back. It is usually a badly seated trim that we redo in fifteen minutes. Our warranty on the seal runs for as long as you own the car.
